Entity SEO has become a recognized discipline: ensuring that key entities — businesses, products, people, places — are clearly defined, consistently named, and correctly linked via schema markup and sameAs declarations. Done well, entity SEO establishes the factual record of an entity's existence and attributes. The AI Perception Graph is what happens after — it models how AI systems understand those entities once the factual record is established.
What Entity SEO Establishes
Entity SEO establishes the factual layer: this entity exists, has these attributes, belongs to this type, and is the same as these external identities. It is the foundation of the Fact Graph. A well-executed entity SEO strategy produces high-confidence fact_nodes with stable attributes, consistent naming, and valid sameAs links. This is the input to the Perception Graph — not the Perception Graph itself.
The Perception Gap
The Perception Gap is the difference between what the Fact Graph declares and what the Perception Graph actually models. A domain can have excellent entity SEO — complete schema, consistent naming, valid sameAs links — and still have a low Entity Confidence Score. The gap appears when: entity attributes in schema are not reflected in body text (AI systems verify schema against body text), entity definitions are correct but isolated from supporting context, or entities on different pages are not linked in ways that help AI systems connect them.
